We practice "brother breaks"not only with our children but also with our two dogs as well. As soon as we start having a miscommunication, we try o let them work it out however, if I sense the atmosphere changing, I calmly and firmly assert my authority. With the dogs I firmly address both dogs with a simple no and separate them both from away in different rooms for a while. This seems to be working. As for my boys I simply explain this is not the way to get what we want and we will not be using this type of behavior to get what we what. For my boys usually after a few minutes the problem works itself out and everything goes back to normal and a comprise is reached. As for the dogs once they have been apart for a bit it is as if nothing Has ever happened. This authoritative leadership style works wells to lead a happy healthy home environment for both my pets and my family as well.
